When you’re in the mood for creamy pasta, Olive Garden always seems to be the place to go. Sure, you can never go wrong with an order of never-ending soup or salad and breadsticks—especially if it involves a bowl of Olive Garden minestrone soup. But the pasta is really the star at this popular Italian chain. And the chicken tortelloni Alfredo from Olive Garden has become a favorite.

It’s not always possible to hit the road for take-out, so we had to try and learn how to make this mouthwatering dish at home. Thanks to its short list of ingredients, this will likely be one of the easiest Olive Garden copycat recipes you’ll ever make.

What is chicken tortelloni Alfredo?

Chicken tortelloni Alfredo is a dish made with chicken, cheesy tortelloni pasta and Alfredo sauce. Olive Garden’s chicken tortellini Alfredo is made with Asiago-filled tortelloni, which is somewhat difficult to find. So, in our copycat recipe, we sprinkle Asiago cheese on top of and broil the dish in the oven to give it a sharper flavor.

In case you’re wondering about tortelloni vs. tortellini, the difference is more than a matter of spelling. Both pasta shapes are filled pastas (similar to ravioli) that can be stuffed with meat or cheese. However, tortelloni are much larger. They originated in northern Italy and can sometimes be as big as your palm!

Ingredients for Copycat Chicken Tortelloni Alfredo from Olive Garden

  • Chicken: We use boneless skinless chicken breasts for this copycat recipe—just like Olive Garden’s version.
  • Refrigerated cheese tortelloni: Tortelloni are available in the refrigerated section at most grocery stores, but they may be harder to spot than the more common tortellini. If you cannot locate them, you can substitute any of the best tortellini brands. It will just be a slightly different eating experience.
  • Alfredo sauce: If you’re not a fan of the jarred stuff and prefer something homemade, you can easily whip up copycat Olive Garden Alfredo sauce for a more authentic dish.
  • Asiago cheese: Asiago is like Parmesan, but it’s sharper, nuttier and a bit creamier.

Broil the pasta 3 to 4 inches from the heat until the top is golden brown, two to three minutes.

Editor’s Tip: Using the wrong dish is one of the most common broiler mistakes. Many glass baking dishes can crack under the broiler’s intense heat, so double-check that you’re using a broiler-safe dish.

Step 5: Serve the tortelloni Alfredo with chicken

To serve, slice the chicken and place it on top of the tortelloni. Sprinkle with additional Asiago, if desired.
