Picture this. It’s a warm summer day, and you’re spending it outside enjoying delicious burgers on the grill. But now the sun is setting—it’s time to clean up. Enter the Scrub Daddy’s BBQ Daddy grill brush, also known as the BBQ Daddy, your bristle-free summer savior from the Shark Tank darling.

Like other Scrub Daddy products, it’s easy to use and tough on dirt. After all, a cleaning product brand doesn’t earn a cult following on TikTok for nothing. Even better? It impressed our Product Testing Team during their search for the best grill brush, earning a spot as the best mesh option. Here’s why we’re obsessed with this easy-peasy grill cleaner.

What is the BBQ Daddy?

The BBQ Daddy grill brush is a bristle-free scrubber, relying on the power of steam to clean your grill to like-new condition. Its ergonomic handle, stabilizing knob and removable cleaning brush sneaks into hard-to-reach places, so every inch of your grill is sparkling. The cleaning brush features steel mesh on one side and a grill scraper on the other for all-in-one cleaning. As you scrub, steam boosts the gadget’s cleaning power.

Pop the brush off to clean it (or eventually replace it, although it’s durable enough to handle plenty of work before it needs to be swapped out). In case you need a pick-me-up while cleaning, there’s a bottle opener built into the handle to make scraping off some grime at least a little bit enjoyable.

To use the Scrub Daddy BBQ brush, preheat your grill, place the cleaning brush in cold water and scrub away dirt and cooked-on food within minutes. It’s an Amazon cleaning product you’ll reach for time and time again, whether you’re getting your gas grills ready for the season or already several barbecues deep into July.

How We Tested It

We’re not promising that scrubbing the grill will become one of your favorite summer activities, but there’s something so satisfying about an easy, quick clean. Not to mention that cleaning your grill—whether you opt for a gas or charcoal grill—is essential. Lodged-on grime can lead to hazardous flare-ups, slow down the grilling time and impart a less-than-pleasant taste to your food. Steaming doesn’t take much elbow grease for the BBQ Scrub Daddy to work its magic, so cleaning your grill becomes a simple item to check off a to-do list.

This product isn’t just more efficient, it’s also safer. Experts have warned that the bristles on traditional wire brushes can break off while cleaning, potentially ending up in your food and, if swallowed, can lead to emergency surgery. The Scrub Daddy grill brush eliminates that risk with its FlexTexture foam core, ArmorTec steel mesh outer casing and stainless steel scraper. Summer should be about enjoying more time outdoors with friends and family, not worrying about what’s in your food.

Product Testing Team’s Tests

Using BBQ Daddy Scrub to clean grillTaste of Home

Our Product Testing Team followed the manufacturer’s instructions regarding how to use the brush. After grilling barbecue ribs and steak, we tested it against 11 other grill brushes. Testers used the grill brushes on dirty grates and noted cleanliness after 30 seconds and again after one minute.

The Grill Daddy brush performed very well against competitors. “Wow! Excellent performance on a hot grill—two swipes and done,” says Product Tester Sheri Kaz. “This cleaned a cold grill fast and easy, too, bringing back the metallic shine of the grates on a charcoal grill.”

Testers aren’t big fans of the bulky design that makes it difficult to clean the edges of a round grill or get under the upper grates of a gas grill. That said, they were surprised to report that the brush worked just as well on a cold grill as it did on a hot grill, though using it on a hot grill required much less elbow grease.

One Month Update

Team member Jessi Rhine volunteered to put the grill brush to the test long-term. After about a month, which consisted of a few uses, she highly recommends reaching for this grill brush. She echoes the difficulty our Testing Team faced when cleaning the underside of a grill grate but otherwise appreciates how simple and quick it is when compared to wire bristle brushes.

“The Grill Daddy has two parts to hold onto. That is good for putting pressure while cleaning, but not good for getting underneath the upper grill,” says Jessi during her long-term tests of the grill brush. “I like that the scoring pad is about the same color as the grease so that it won’t look too dirty too fast.”

Jessi notes that the brush is holding up very well so far. She expects it to last through the grilling season and potentially longer, provided it’s maintained properly.

FAQ

How do I use the BBQ Daddy?

The BBQ Daddy is simple to use. After grilling, dunk it in water and use it to scrub away debris. Ensure your grill is still hot, which will cause the brush to produce steam. The steam helps lift off errant bits of food, while the scouring head eliminates stuck-on messes.

How do I clean the BBQ Daddy?

According to the instructions, you can wash the BBQ Daddy in a sink or pop off the head and put it on the top shelf of a dishwasher. For our tests, the Product Testing Team removed the spongy head and washed everything in the sink with Dawn Spray, letting it sit for about 10 minutes. Then, we squished the head to get out the debris. After that, we repeated a few times until it was squeaky clean. The care process is similar to that of other grill brushes, such as the Grill Rescue brush.
