		Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
 - 1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
 - 1-1/2 cups water
 - DUMPLINGS:
 - 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
 - 1/2 cup sugar
 - 2 teaspoons baking powder
 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
 - 1/2 cup whole milk
 - 2 tablespoons butter, softened
 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
 - 1/2 cup coarsely chopped peeled apple, optional
 - Vanilla ice cream, optional
 
Directions
- In a large skillet, heat the butter, brown sugar and water to boiling. Reduce heat to simmer.
 - Meanwhile, combine the dumpling ingredients; add apple if desired. Drop by tablespoonfuls into the simmering sauce. Cover tightly and simmer for 20 minutes. Do not lift lid. If desired, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
